Our Story
Sunwood Cove
Uncover the captivating charm of Sunwood Cove, a hidden treasure steeped in Navarre’s rich history. Established in 1955, these distinctive beach cottages were crafted as long-term rentals, serving as a tranquil escape for tourists seeking respite from the hustle and bustle of everyday life—well before the causeway linked us to the barrier island. For generations, Navarre has been a sanctuary for passionate anglers, enticing them with a diverse array of fish, including red snapper, redfish, mahi-mahi, mackerel, and pompano.
Though the cottages may not have offered the same luxury as today, their role as pioneers in the short-term rental market is unmistakable. Sunwood Cove radiates historical charm, showcasing breathtaking wildlife views and granting direct access to a private beach and spectacular sunsets. With its relaxed ambiance, Sunwood Cove invites you to unwind, reconnect with loved ones, and forge unforgettable memories. LOCAL WILDLIFE
Sunwood Cove, a sanctuary teeming with diverse wildlife, where our star residents, Aaron and Erin, the Great Blue Herons, reign supreme. These stunning birds are the largest wading species in North America, with an impressive wingspan that stretches nearly 7 feet and a height reaching up to 4.5 feet. Weighing between 4.5 and 8 pounds, these magnificent herons can grace our lives for up to 15 years. Witnessing the Great Blue Heron in action is a breathtaking experience. These skilled hunters display remarkable patience, standing silently in the shallows as they wait for their next meal. While they primarily feast on fish that can be swallowed whole, their diet is varied, including small mammals, frogs, snakes, turtles, and even baby alligators. Their stealthy nature often leads to amusing encounters with anglers who find themselves competing with these clever birds for bait fish.
As Florida’s most iconic wading birds, Great Blue Herons glide effortlessly through our lush wetlands and stunning coastlines, captivating onlookers with their elegance. Their intricate behaviors not only enrich our environment but also play an essential role in maintaining ecological balance. Plus, these remarkable birds are known to mate for life, which inspired the endearing names Aaron and Erin, and they return to the same nesting site each year, a testament to their strong familial bonds. Experience the beauty and grace of Great Blue Herons at Sunwood Cove—witness firsthand the wonders of nature and the incredible stories behind our cherished wildlife!
